Today there are more than 7.5 billion people in the world. More than 41 million people have already paid for a music streaming service. Is that huge? It’s a big number, but how did we get to find all our music in a simple phone?
Let's go back to understand…
Of course there are: the phonograph, the Jukebox, the record player that we all knew in movies. Even if we can notice a return to the 20s with the record player. Indeed, it is a means of decoration for some and for others it is a means of bringing up the old contemporary music with the gentle frostbite of it.
But in this article we will focus on the innovations that emerged during the 20th century that really changed the way we consume music
Let's start with the cassette: The Philips cassette, which appeared in the 1963's, greatly facilitates the consumption of music. It is tough and with a much smaller size than vinyl, it becomes a mobile listening device from 1979. When Sony's first walkman appeared on the public market, making music more and more inseparable from our daily lives.
The means of listening have multiplied since the 1960s. And those until the 1980s, with vinyl declining and losing the market head to tape. 10 years later, it is the cassette turn to give the latter a place in the CD, the format of which was conquered by the walkman. But it was nothing to do with the following innovations that changed the music market in the 1990s.
Later, they chained: The possibility of saving storage space for an acceptable listening quality that will be called MP3. This one will take a huge extended later as it will become a reference format for free music sharing. It It was then that the download race began and exploded with the evolution of the Internet.
Faced with this major musical and technological turning point, the music industry, represented by the three: Universal, Sony and Warner are losing millions of dollars and are facing an extension of new technologies and ways of consuming music. At the same time, many sites and software will develop at the same time like Vuze.
